Sometimes you find your heart’s desire and you don’t recognize it at first. That happened to Angel Owen, boss babe of 5 Acre Pine in Montgomery, Alabama. Life as a hairdresser was fun, yet predictable. And then, a year ago, Angel and her family bought a 1980s ranch house, and set about remodeling it.
The eye of the beholder
Well, I bought a house last March and started remodeling it. Posted pics on social media and started getting feedback about how much everyone loved my house. Soon after that I got texts and messages asking what I would do to this room or that room. Then people started asking me to “redo” their furniture and from there this grew!
The focus of 5 Acre Pine is online decorating ideas and refurbished furniture. Angel teaches people how to “shop their home” to redecorate their homes. And her repurposing business has grown enough that it’s coming alongside Angel’s 18-year hair career.
If it stands still, paint it
I can’t say that I offer something no one else has, but I offer my own unique style and decor taste. I show people how to take what they see as outdated or trash and repaint it making it usable again. What I love to do is take something and use it completely differently than intended.
About that painting… Angel’s kitchen was dark, like most 80s era houses tended to be. Now, it’s entirely white – light and airy and cheerful, with a cozy dining area graced with a beautiful bay window. Even Angel’s KitchenAid mixer got painted white (it was formerly RED)! Can you spot the mixer now?
Branding the art
The branding process was simple. I had a small vision, but these women made it easier because they took what I said and made it what I was seeing! It was a simple process. It was great! I wholeheartedly believe a good brand is the beginning of a great and successful business. The future for me holds infinite possibilities!
Asked what she considers her biggest obstacle, Angel gets to the heart of the matter. Many women who transform into boss babes overcome the same internal discussions with themselves.
Not feeling like what I have to offer is something anyone else would want or need. What I have to remember is people suggested to me this business and from there I’ve been attempting it SLOWLY! I hope to continue to grow and eventually be able to offer even more.
And my greatest success, past being a mother?? Overcoming my fear and anxiety and stepping outside of my box.
Renovations on the road
Have you ever heard of someone remodeling a 5th wheel camper? Angel and her family have tackled it!
Everything about the 5th wheel is a process. They ripped out carpet, vinyl and old subfloor, and peeled out all the old Formica countertops. All the window treatments were snatched out and thrown onto the burn pile. Of course, anything that had water damage was removed and replaced.
Walls, cabinets and countertops were all primed and painted. New floors and ceiling were installed. Jack knife couches were recovered and new sinks ordered.
At publishing time, the camper is still in progress, since it was basically gutted. But check in on the 5 Acre Pine Instagram page to stay in the loop!
