What’s so funny about tragedy?
Life Lafter was originally Life Lafter Divorce. Leanne Linsky is a two-time divorcee turned comedian and this was her way of marrying divorce with comedy. Teaching improv technique to other divorcees would hopefully provide a fresh perspective and give their smile back.
Lafter or laughter? Both! Lafter is laughter after! For Leanne, finding laughter after life’s biggest challenges is an adventure worth having. Not everything is ‘haha’ hilarious when it first happens. As they say in the improv world, tragedy plus time equals comedy. Lafter isn’t about sarcasm, hiding behind a joke, or laughing at someone else’s expense. Lafter is about healing, learning, and becoming an even better person.
Currently based in Long Beach, California, Leanne drew on her corporate experience from a Fortune 200 company. The former Marketing Director now offers one-on-one life coaching sessions. Thanks to technology like Zoom and Skype, you can reach her from anywhere in the world. Her podcast can be found on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify, and more (Life Lafter Divorce).
Comedy is more than jokes
As Leanne’s own life evolved, so did her business. At the suggestion of her new boyfriend (now bf of three years, qualifying him as The Boyfriend), she hosted a podcast to reach more people. The podcast turned out to be more in-depth and meaningful — and not-so-hilarious. Leanne realized she wanted to be of more help than just cracking an occasional joke. She enrolled in school and earned her life coach certifications:
ACC, Associate Certified Coach, International Coach Federation
CVACC, CoachVille Associate Certified Coach, CoachVille
Life being what it is, divorce isn’t the only mountain that gets plopped down on our road. So, Leanne has shortened the company name and broadened the focus to include job loss, relocation, family emergencies, you name it. She has the creds to help you climb your mountain, tunnel through, or go around. Whatever it takes.

Branding is serious fun
The branding process was extremely helpful for getting clarity on my vision and mission. This took some time since my business focus has changed quite a bit since I started. I wanted to make sure I created a logo that reflects where I am going rather than where I had been. Autumn Lane asked the right questions, and the more specific I was, the easier it was for them to design my logo. I think having examples of logos I likes helped considerably. Like they say, a picture says 1000 words. Once I shared samples on a Pinterest board and even sketched out a really rough (and I mean ROUGH) drawing of my vision, Lily was able to tie it all together.
Basically, the more prepared and clear I was, the better my logo became. Each time Lily sent over a mock-up or revision, I would spend a lot of time looking them over. I’d put each one up on my screen and come back to it several times throughout the day. And I’d ask myself, what works and what doesn’t? Is my message clear? Is it easy to understand and read?
What also helped a lot was finding a couple of trustworthy people to share the logos with. They saw things I didn’t, and they saw it from a non-marketing person’s point-of-view. That was helpful. I also had to differentiate between constructive feedback for the business and just personal taste. In other words, I had to be open to criticism.
Since sharing my new logo and updating my website with the new branding, the feedback has been 100% positive. I’m hearing what I’d hope to hear. People are getting the right message. And I’m thrilled! It feels good.
