Your Little Girl Can Be a Disney Princess (on a budget)
Show me a little girl who doesn’t want to be a Disney princess, or a boy who can’t see himself as a prince. Even a tomboy like me, who preferred climbing trees to playing with dolls, dreamed of attending a ball with Prince Charming. But have you priced Disney inspired costumes? For quality, handmade costumes, purchase them starting at $300. Even if you have more children who might wear a princess gown, that’s still pretty steep. And then you’d have to store it until the next child is ready for it. You’d need a fairy godmother, for sure.
While Lori Blumenstock was planning her family’s first Disney trip, she came across some amazing handmade Disney inspired children’s costumes. But the price tag was more than she could justify, for something that would be likely worn once. Then Lori got to thinking, why not collect the finest handmade costumes available, and rent them? And she waved her magic wand, and in a puff of purple smoke, Your Fairy Godmother appeared!
I thought by offering these amazing costumes to rent (instead of purchase) to other moms for their child’s Disney trip, Halloween, birthday party or special photoshoot, it would be a great way to let your child have the experience of wearing a REAL princess gown at a fraction of what it would cost to purchase.
Cinderella, Meet Your Fairy Godmother
Lori had a career in sales and marketing. Once she had children, she opted to be a stay at home mom, so launching her costume rental business was a perfect fit. Your Fairy Godmother carries only the highest quality, handmade (right here in the US!) children’s costumes on the market today. Choose to rent a costume (either for girls or boys) for periods of 4 days or 8 days, and have it shipped to your home or to your Disney resort if you are traveling. Both Disney World and Disneyland are serviced, as Lori is based in Memphis, TN and ships anywhere in the US.
Now, here’s where Lori’s marketing background shines through!
Every costume comes beautifully packaged in a Your Fairy Godmother box and includes a return shipping label in with their order to make sending it back quick and easy. I also include a special letter for the child from their “Fairy Godmother” that tells them all about how the costume will turn them into a real princess for a few days before they must pass the magic on to another child.
Your Fairy Godmother is the only company in the US that’s in the luxury children’s costume rental boutique. Lori isn’t just ‘renting costumes’. Your child will have an unforgettable, magical experience! The extremely high customer return rate is clear evidence that people love what Lori offers.
As if by Magic, The Brand Appears
When I first started Your Fairy Godmother, I had no idea if the people would love the idea or not. So, I didn’t put a tremendous amount of thought (or money) into branding. After about 4 years in business and consistent growth, I thought it was time to explore a rebrand and have something custom created to better reflect the Your Fairy Godmother brand.
I was drawn to Autumn Lane Paperie’s soft watercolors and color palettes and knew they were the ones to assist in the rebrand process. Working with Lily to create something magical, yet whimsical, was a lot of fun. Hopefully the rebrand will better reflect the quality of the products I offer, as well as the magic I am able to bring to a child here at Your Fairy Godmother.
As the rental category of the retail industry continues to grow, I foresee the same for Your Fairy Godmother. Renting is not only a more economical approach for many mothers, but also a sustainable approach. A garment only has to be manufactured once and will get many wears. I’d love to add a Your Fairy Godmother branded line of costumes which would be exclusive to my boutique and greatly expand to include many more character and sizing options.
The Ogre, the Witch and the Unicorn
Lori’s biggest challenge so far has been hesitation from those unfamiliar with the rental process. She aims to educate her potential clients on how easy the whole procedure is. There are really only 2 steps – your child wears the very special costume and you return it!
People are also worried that their child will want to keep the costume after wearing it. We know we’d sure like to hang on to that special feeling. But Lori includes a personalized letter from the child’s ‘Fairy Godmother’ explaining how the magic works. After their time period is through, the costume must be passed on to the next lucky child, or it will lose its magic. Every little girl who knows the story of Cinderella can understand that. At midnight the magic coach and horses turned back into a pumpkin and mice.
I feel like I achieve my greatest success every time I get an email from a mom after their child has worn one of my costumes. They tell me how special it made the child feel and include a picture of the child smiling ear to ear. That is really what it is all about. I’m also proud that I’ve been featured nationally on the Scary Mommy blog as well as many popular Disney blogs and local news stations and newspapers nationally.
