Becoming a Badass Boss Babe
At Sweet On You Boutique, we offer trendy and unique women’s clothing pieces. And while we do provide unique clothing pieces that will help you feel good about your look, our ultimate goal is to help you feel good about your overall self, both inside and out. That’s our mission. To empower women to feel confident not just in their style, but in their skin.
There’s a story behind the philosophy, of course.
Tori’s dream was always to be in business for herself. It was amazing to see people creating a life they love, doing what they love. And she decided she had to have that too. So, in college Tori majored in Entrepreneurship, aiming for a career as a baker. But then, months before graduation, she realized her passion for baking had waned. Thinking that she couldn’t pursue her goal of being a Boss Babe, Tori resigned herself to getting a job.
Bridge Out, Detour Ahead
When all of a sudden the road is blocked on a trip, progress on the detour is slower. But sometimes you find a better place along the way. Tori made the turn down the alternate road, and spent 9 months looking for a full-time job before accepting an offer.
You’d think someone who spent 9 months looking for a job would be happy about finally getting one right? Nope. I wasn’t even excited about getting this job because it was nothing I actually wanted to do. Long story short, I left that full-time job within less than 2 weeks of being there, and I was jobless.
That’s when I decided to stop wishing for my dreams and start working for them. In that moment, I realized that I am the only person who can make my dreams happen. So, I ended up finding a new job that suits me better, and I set to work. 5 months later, I opened my online store!
Currently Tori works full-time as a marketing and social media coordinator in Philadelphia, at a marketing research firm. Her side hustle is running her new online clothing store. In the future, her intent is to take Sweet On You full-time. And she’d love to teach other women how to start their business while working full-time. There’s a good possibility of a coaching program down the road!
Creating the Perfect Billboard
I had a vision for my brand before coming to Autumn Lane, but Lily was able to make it come to life!! The logo itself has meaning behind it. The hearts are different sizes in terms of thickness, they’re two different shades of pink, and they are imperfect. This symbolizes the empowerment of women of all different shapes and sizes.
Also, I wanted the heart in the word ‘you’ to symbolize loving yourself for who you are. I think that my new brand will elevate my business because our logo is unlike other boutiques. It’s unique and different!
From Potholes to Pavement
Tori’s biggest struggle to this point was getting into the right mindset to get started. Even though she spent college studying the ‘how’ of Entrepreneurship, no one could give her the ‘why’. That’s personal, and each of us must find our own. During the last few semesters before graduation, doubts and anxiety crept in.
Every day, I questioned whether or not I should have chosen a different major—other than Entrepreneurship—one that wasn’t so risky and uncertain. Would I find a job straight out of college, like my friends? Am I capable of running a business on my own? To be honest, I even questioned my own self-worth.
When Tori took the first job after college, after many months of searching, it was definitely not what she wanted. Every day she was working for someone else’s dream and losing touch with her own. She just couldn’t let that happen. Yes, success was not certain. Yes, it could be scary. But what was she waiting for? So, she quit that job in a hurry, found another one better suited to her, and went to work making her dream come true.

I think my greatest success so far was my opening launch weekend for sweetonyouboutique.com! For being a new store, we made a lot of sales! So many locals, family members, and friends have supported, and it warms my heart knowing that I have all of this support behind me. I think that in itself is a success.
The best advice I can give is to just start! Go after what it is that you want in life because no one else can do it for you. It won’t always be easy or handed to you on a silver plate, but it will be worth it. You just have to decide to go for it.
