Updating Your Brand
One question that we get on a regular basis is how often you should be updating your brand. “Updating” could mean a lot of things here – it could mean a quick little change, or it could mean a total refresh & rebrand.
Your logo + overarching brand is something that your audience is familiar with – it’s what creates trust, it’s what enables people to decide whether they want to do business with you in a glance. Your brand helps to communicate whether your business + its offerings are something that the consumer may be interested in.
Updating your brand should be considered very carefully and thoughtfully. Remember the uproar when Instagram updated its logo? We’d all become so familiar with the original logo that there was immediate backlash over the new bright gradient + minimalist look. Instagram is a prime example of rebranding success, though – now that we’ve all gotten used to this new look, the app is super easy to find because of its bright colors, and it speaks to the current generation of Instagram users more readily than a vintage-looking Polaroid-y camera…. which I think is pretty cool, but then again…I’m probably not the generation Instagram rebranded for!
Here’s what we recommend for updating your brand!
You should update your brand when information changes.
You should update your brand when you change your offerings.
You should update your brand when you have major shifts in your business, or outgrow your current brand.
